Hotel Muse Bangkok Music Collection
Hotel Muse blends the styles of old Siam and fin de siècle France into a coolly cosmopolitan yet at once playfully indulgent milieu, a place where every conceptual element is dedicated to the fine art of sensual pleasure – and among the senses, sound is by no means less important.
Who better, then, to curate Hotel Muse’s own music collection than Julien Barthe, or Plaisir de France, a French DJ, producer, musician & dandy.
For Plaisir de France’s Hotel Muse Volume 1: Before Dawn, he has assembled a captivating soundscape of many styles, from jazz to lounge, from world beat to electronica to funk. Moods vary, with soulful down tempo phasing into upbeat groove, laid-back club funk segueing into sexy hip-swaying rhythms. Artists in the mix include the indie-folk of Catriona Irving, electronic jazz by Austrian crooner Louie Austen, the mysterious but joyful disco-house of Black Devil Disco Club and the French-touch throb of Sauvage.
Plaisir de France over the phone:“I chose these particular tracks for their special flavour, trying to capture the essence of Hotel Muse. The spirit of lavishness and calmness that comes from the pictures I saw. It’s soft and gentle, but always catchy. From pop to house, from lounge to disco. It’s a journey. The soundtrack of Hotel Muse wherever you are.”
Plaisir de France has been a central of enigmatic figure since the old-school rave and club-music era right up to the present. Over the past decade and a half he’s mixed as resident DJ in top French clubs such as The End, Fabric, Le Pulp, Le Paris, Rex Club and Les Bains; presented his own radio shows for FG, Nova and RTBF; worked as music consultant for brands including Schmoove and Springcourt while also advising on various televised events. He’s remixed for labels like Prozak Trax, Skint, Coma and Kitsuné among numerous others, all the while finding to spin and gig throughout Europe and beyond.
Hotel Muse Volume 1: Before Dawn is where elegance meets swagger. It’s the sound of Hotel Muse.
